  2. North Wales police crackdown on reckless racers

Jul 17 2008 by Owen R Hughes, Daily Post

A CRACKDOWN to stop reckless 4x4 racers and bikers scarring the North Wales countryside is asking responsible off-roaders to give tip-offs to police.

Officers have already started using the force helicopter to swoop on problem hills and moors based on intelligence from registered off-road groups.

Operation Udder has already seen several vehicles seized and drivers charged with offences in hits on the Berwyn Mountains, Horseshoe Pass, and Llantysilio Mountains.

Further enforcement days are planned for the summer when the helicopter and mounted division will take to the hills supported by regular officers.

Internet forums are being blamed for promoting off limit sites to drivers to experiment on – scarring beauty spots and disturbing the peace for walkers and residents.

One website had this blog from a biker riding on land off the Horseshoe Pass, boasting: “Riding on these moors is totally illegal, and police and council staff in Land Rovers do try and enforce this. It's a £2,000 fine if you get caught – but many people do it, every weekend, and no one's been caught because it's so easy to outrun the law.”

Dave Rogers, from the Countryside and Recreational Access Group (CRAG), said: “If responsible off-roaders do not take action to tackle those not acting responsibly then we will lose access altogether.

“This includes acting with the police, we are the eyes and ears for the police who do not have the resources to cover these large inaccessible areas.

“Our aim is keeping the rights of way open, if that means keeping the idiots under control that is what we must do. The group coordinates operations with police utilising the force helicopter and also taking officers into inaccessible sites to deal with off-roaders acting illegally.”

Areas being targeted include slate quarries off the Horseshoe Pass road, between Llangollen and Ruthin, where bikers performs reckless stunts, and vast areas of the Berwyn Mountains.

A spokesman for North Wales Police said: “This is an ongoing issue that police are targeting with the assistance of CRAG.

“We will respond to reports of incidents of illegal driving and use resources to target these.

“The force helicopter is used to patrol problems areas when it is in the vicinity and can be used to access areas that would normally be inaccessible.

“The enforcement day – Operation Udder – was a success and more operations are planned where police will utilise the helicopter and mounted division.”

Mr Rogers added: “Those acting illegally are scarring the countryside in rural North Wales, they are giving us all a bad name.”

  7. For his birthday, little Joe asked for a 10-speed bike. His father said, "Son, we'd give you one, but the mortgage on this house is £140,000 & your mother just lost her job. There's no way we can afford it." The next day the father saw little Joe heading out the front door with a suitcase.

So he asked, "Son, where are you going?"

Little Joe told him; "I was walking past your room last night and heard you telling Mom you were pulling out. Then I heard her tell you to wait because she was coming too. And I'll be damned if I'm staying here by myself with a £140,000 mortgage & no bike."

    Interesting............

Just thought I would share this with you, as you know I work in the speeding fine department in Swindon's Magistrate's Court and in the course of my investigation into "fines, their payment methods, and how points are automatically added against drivers licences" we discovered something very interesting

"If You Get a Speeding Fine."

This has been tried and it works I tried to send this to everyone I know.

I know that for a fact is works so if you ever get in this situation, you have an out. We discovered that this procedure works nationwide. Read it and try it, you have nothing to lose but the points on your license.

    This is how it works:

If you get a speeding ticket or went through a red light or whatever the case may be, and you are going to get points on your licence, then there is a method to ensure that you DO NOT get any points. When you get your fine, send in the cheque to pay for it and if the fine is say, £40, then make the cheque out for £41 or some small amount over the

fine. The system will then have to send you back a cheque for the difference, but here is the trick!

**DO NOT CASH THE REFUND CHEQUE!!!** Throw it away!!

Points are not assessed to your licence until all financial transactions are complete. If you do not cash the cheque, then the transactions are NOT complete. However, the system has gotten its money and is happy and will not bother you any more.

This information came to our attention from a very reliable computer company that sets up the standard database used by each county's computing system. Good luck and share this with all your friends and other family members

    as well!!!
